Caravan Park + Local Area Information
|
Its just a 10 minute walk into Arbroath
&
rich in history, Arbroath has a fine abbey (originally a Cluniac priory), in which the Declaration of Arbroath was signed after the Battle of Bannockburn where Robert the Bruce liberated Scotland. Although the author of this Latin document is unknown, it is believed to have been Bernard de Linton, Abbot of Arbroath and Chancellor of Scotland.
Arbroath is an active fishing village and is famous for the "Arbroath Smokies" (smoked haddock) follow your nose to one of the many smokehouses in the harbour area. (see the very old fishing vessel now a museum)
Also,
the east coast of Scotland has a very mild climate and is well known for its soft fruit. Visit one of the many fruit farms and taste freshly picked the succulent strawberries, raspberries and loganberries that the county of Angus is famous for.
There are lots of wonderful places to eat out as the restaurateurs in the area make full use of the variety of fresh local produce.
The town also has a wide range of shops and leisure facilities
For golf fans there is the world famous golf course of Carnoustie 7 miles away, and, within easy driving distance, the ‘Auld Course’ at St Andrews.(This is the year of the Open Championship)
Water sports such as yachting, canoeing, deep sea fishing, or hill walking, ice skating, tennis and much, much more are right on the doorstep.
Dundee, the 'City of Discovery', is within easy reach of Arbroath as is the 'Granite' city of Aberdeen. Between both cities is a wide variety of things to do and places to see. To the west there is the Grampian mountain range where you can experience the Whisky Trail, visit the town of Kirriemuir (birthplace of J.M.Barrie who wrote Peter Pan), visit one the many castles such as Braemar, Glamis or Balmoral (when the Queen and her family are not in residence), or just enjoy the beauty of the Highland scenery. The late Queen Mother's childhood home Glamis Castle and gardens is a short drive from Arbroath as is Dundee Botanic Gardens. Visit one the Historic Scotland locations such as Edzell Castle and see both the castle and its beautiful gardens, a whole day out for all members of the family.
