Abergele was a Roman town, and the area has many historical sites of interest, a testament to the towns long and distinguished history. Start with The Mount, which is thought to be what's left of Abergele's castle and remains today. Check out Tower Hill, a seventeenth-century watchtower which is an excellent place for a walk and boasts some incredible, far-reaching views. A little further out of town is Gwrych Castle, the stunning 200-year-old castle which became famous recently as the home of the UK version of Ilm a Celebrity.
Abergele?s beach at Pensarn is famous for its panoramic coastal views. It is a Mecca for watersports enthusiasts, particularly kayakers and windsurfers who like to take advantage of the ideal conditions. Situated on the North Wales Coastal Path, the beach is a great spot for walkers and dog-friendly. Other nearby beaches include Kimnel Bay, Rhyl, Colwyn Bay and Llandulas, which are well worth packing a bucket and spade for.
If you like being at home with nature and getting up close to animals, then Abergele is the perfect place to visit. Within a short drive of the town is the RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve, a haven for wildlife and birds, so make sure you bring your binoculars and keep an eye out for waders and water birds, butterflies and bees. A great day out for the whole family is Manorafon Farm Park, where kids can meet and greet a host of farm animals, learn more about farm life, and have fun playing. The Welsh Mountain Zoo takes visitors on a journey from North Wales all around the world with more than 70 species of animals to discover.
