Our "pet free" 3 bedroomed, 8 berth caravan, is located in beautiful Challaborough Bay, Near Bigbury, South Devon. It is centrally heated and double glazed. There are two private parking spaces, a main shower room with wc, plus an additional wc, making it an ideal choice for a larger family group.

The caravan itself is located "on the flat" so no hills to climb, and it is 5 minutes’ walk from the sandy "Blue Flag" Life Guard controlled beach & park amenities. There is private parking for two vehicles to the side of the caravan and an outside seating area. We supply the duvets and pillows but would ask you to bring duvet covers, sheets, pillow cases, towels & T-towels.

The caravan has an under counter fridge and separate freezer, so there is lots of space for you to store your provisions. We have tried to add to the "standard" kitchen utensils to try to create a little home from home. In addition to extra baking trays, cooking utensils and dishes, expect a 4 slice toaster and BBQ utensils (BBQ not supplied currently). There are 2 x sofas in the lounge, one of which houses a pull out double bed. There are several surfaces in the lounge with cupboards underneath and several shelves. There is also a central storage area with a lift up lid which can be used for storing additional bedding for instance. There is a flat screen TV with Freeview and built in DVD player and a separate CD player. In the master bedroom you will find a dressing table (with power socket, mirror and hairdryer!), wardrobe, 2 x bed side cabinets and over bed shelves and cupboards which make storing your clothes and items easy. The two twin bedrooms also feature wardrobes, dressing shelves with mirrors, bedside cabinets and over bed shelves and cupboards. We actually pride our caravan on having ample storage space in all rooms! In the bathroom you will find a basin, loo, and shower cubicle with a seat and shelving inside to store all your toiletries. Ladies - is there nothing worse than nowhere to store your shampoo? No worries about that here. There is also a heated towel rail for that extra bit of luxury, and there is a cabinet over the wash basin with a mirror and several shelves inside to allow storage of additional toiletries. Located next to the main bathroom is the second toilet which also houses the boiler cupboard.

Another feature of this caravan, which we hadn't seen before (having stayed in loads over the years), is the fact that you enter through a central hallway. The lounge/kitchen door is to your left and bedrooms, bathroom & second toilet are down the hallway to your right. We feel that by entering through a hall, and not directly into the lounge, gives a more homely feel and is perfect for kicking off your shoes at the door and hanging your coats out of your way on the pegs provided in the hall.

Entertainment passes can be obtained for an additional cost, or you can purchase your own directly with the park reception.

On Park
There is a nightly entertainment program which is controlled by a resident entertainments team. Expect also outside acts - Live Music, Magicians, Comedians etc. There is also linked bingo (at 6pm) & children’s discos/games etc early evening. On Friday and Saturday nights there is also an "in house" bingo flyer (played at 8.30pm). Morning kids clubs are also available.

There is a separate Bar/Restaurant with Sky sports etc, traditional pub grub (+Sunday Carvery) and Costa Coffee. The bar/restaurant offers an outside patio area with stunning views directly over the beach. During peak times there is an outside kiosk serving Tea/Coffee, cold drinks and ice lollies.

There is also a Swimming Pool (with Toddlers Pool, Jacuzzi and Sauna). In addition to the main swim sessions, there are regular bookable pool activities and family and adults only sessions too.

Takeaway & Pizzeria, Gym, Amusements, Children’s Soft Play Area, Surf Shop (hire wet suits & boards. Adults and children) and Launderette are also found on park.

The park shop is licensed and sells a good range of provisions, daily newspapers, freshly baked bread & gifts.

There is also a privately owned ice cream kiosk (selling Mr Whippy, and a selection of guest ice creams and ice lollies), cold drinks etc & beach goods. On the same section there is also a privately owned Fish & Chip Shop, and a small diner offering Devon Cream Teas, Sandwiches, Salads, Daily Specials, Fresh Meat, Fish and Seafood and with views directly over the beach.

Out and About
Within walking distance (over cliff top), visit the world famous Burgh Island with its Art Deco Hotel (built 1929). Burgh Island was a famous stomping ground of Agatha Christie among others. In fact, the author loved the place so much, she used it as inspiration for the location of one of her novels, And Then There Were None. The Island is accessible on foot via the beach causeway during low tide, or why not take a ride through the waves on the Sea Tractor, available at high tide (charge applies). The sea tractor is third generation and the only one of its kind in the world! Whilst on the island enjoy a drink or two in the Pilchard Inn, one of the U.K's oldest pubs (circa 1300). Sit outside on the terrace and enjoy a panoramic view of the stunning coastline and marvel at the surfers below. After refreshment at the Pilchard, why not climb to the top of the island. There is a monument at the top and the view is very much worth the steep climb!

Within a short drive of the park (12 miles) visit beautiful Salcombe, bustling Plymouth (16 miles) with its Lighthouse, Barbican and Aquarium, or our own personal favourite, picturesque Dartmouth (20 miles). Have a browse around the shops, take a pub lunch, take a boat trip along the river Dart, take a train ride along the harbour. The choices are endless at Dartmouth. Children will love the "crabbing" that can be done off the quay! The nearest town to Challaborough is the market town of Kingsbridge (8 miles). Visit Kingsbridge for Supermarkets, Banks, Bakeries, Tea Rooms, Pubs, Shops etc.

If beach is your thing, remember there is a sandy beach within seconds from the main park reception. Challaborough Bay Beach is popular with surfers and body boarders alike, and there are rockpools to explore during low tide. The beach is Life Guard controlled during the summer months. Aternatively (or additionally), visit Bigbury Bay beach, with its golden sands, beach café and gift shop. Bigbury Bay Beach is within a 10 minute stroll across the cliff en-route to Burgh Island. We would also recommend a visit to the spectacular Blackpool Sands (Sandy) (19 miles) or Slapton Sands (Pebbles) (16 miles). Also within easy reach of park is Pennywell Farm (17 miles), Woodlands Family Theme Park (15 miles) and Dartmoor Zoo (15 miles). Try also Buckfastleigh (17 miles) with its Abbey, Otter Sanctuary and Butterfly Farm and return Steam Train Rides to Totnes via the South Devon Railway. Young children will love the rare breeds farm which can be found adjacent to Totnes station!

We are often asked about good pubs local to Challaborough. In answer to these questions, we would recommend a visit or two to the below,
Journeys End Inn. Ringmore. 15-20 minute walk from park. (tough walk upwards, roads are narrow with no pavements). 13th Century. Cask Ales. Pub Food. Outside Seating & Conservatory.
Dolphin Inn. Kingston. 4 miles from park. 16th Century. Cask Ales. Pub food. Outside Seating.
Pickwick Inn. St. Anns Chapel. 2 miles from park. Homemade Pizza & Italian Menu. Sunday Roasts. Occasional Live Music. Outside Seating.
Pilchard Inn. Burgh Island. Suggested route - 20-25 minute walk from park across the beach at Bigbury Bay. 13th Century. Outside Seating.

If you have any energy left after all that beaching and visiting, remember, this area of South Devon has been classified as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Coastal and inland walks are very popular here and there are several suggested walks for all abilities (ask at reception for details). Distances range from 1 mile to over 13 miles!
