Local Attractions:

You cannot resist the charm of Mersea Island. You know you’re in for a relaxing time as soon as you drive over the Strood.

The causeway is covered for a short time by the sea at very high tides, cutting off the island from the mainland so please check the tide times before you travel to avoid delays.

5 minute drive into West Mersea, which has plenty of interesting history to explore.

Boat trips run from the jetty in West Mersea. Crabbing off the jetty is so much fun for the young and not so young!

There are some charming restaurants to be discovered on the Island serving locally caught seafood. People come from miles to sample it. There are also quaint tearooms, cafés and a vineyard to visit.

For golfers there is a course at the Crowne Plaza Colchester, which is 18 minutes away.

For those who love sea fishing, you can join the local fishermen who take day trips out into the beautiful Blackwater Estuary. You often spot fishermen high tide fishing from the beach too.

If you are looking for a great day out, Colchester Zoo is 15 minutes away.

Colchester Town is 20 minutes away offering shops, The Natural History Museum, Colchester castle, Go-Bananas soft play and a leisure center with flumes.

It is a dog friendly park with a designated dog field onsite.

Beautiful country and coastal walks nearby with outstanding views and lots of wildlife.

The park borders Cudmore Grove Country Park, which has a fabulous, newly installed play area. A ‘Parkrun’ is held there every Saturday from 9.

There is a small clubhouse with entertainment put on at weekends during the school holidays. This closes off peak but there is a local pub with great food a short walk away.

    Indoor heated swimming pool.

A sports field for ball games and kite flying.

Activities are run for a small fee during the school holidays including various crafts, a lunar cinema and water walking.

The park doesn’t currently have food facilities although this something they are looking at for the future. There are some great local takeaways which deliver, menus can be found in guest services.

There is a small onsite shop for the basics. For a wider range of products you can find a Co-op and Tesco Express a few miles away in West Mersea. If you are looking for fresh local produce there is a farm shop on the mainland just before you cross the Strood and you can buy fresh fish straight off the boat in West Mersea.
