The worst experience I’ve had with private caravans and I’ve stayed in many.
First off lack of communication, I had to chase up arrival time ect which left me quite uneasy.
Secondly, upon arriving that night we tried to have a shower, after leaving it on for several minutes it was still cold so I tried to adjust the temperature, this didn’t work. Trying to get in touch with Debi is an absolute nightmare. In total went 4 days without hot water for our shower. I was told I had broken it by trying to adjust temperature it would of been nice if someone actually showed you inside and how to use things as they said they would. . However I know others who stayed a few weeks previous and they had shower issues also. They came out to fix after 4 days.
On our second to last night one of the single beds collapsed on me, I didn’t ring debi right away as she told me a few personal issues going on so k tried to resolve it myself rather than bothering them again with another problem. As soon as they arrived to collect keys I made them aware straight away. Nothing else was said about it.
However now 8 days since I’ve left I haven’t heard a thing about my security bond, and my email has being ignored so decided to ring up.
I was greeted straight away with attitude from debi saying “I don’t know how you can ring me for money when you’ve damaged my van” I was shocked and tried to get a word in edgeways to explain, her reason was that we pushed the beds together. Now I’m sorry but if pushing a bed a whole 7/8 inches makes it break then you need new beds. And secondly, when I tried to see if I f could fix the bed it was noticeable that the top legs where completely different to the bottom leg, meaning it’s clearly broken before.
After a very hostile conversation on the phone debi had absolutely none of it and if refusing to give me my full bond back, claims I can have half back however still yet to receive this.
My points are if I had genuinely broken anything why had it taken my chasing them up to find this out. Surely any professional would have rang or emailed to let me know. My guess is they where hoping I’d forget about it a on they could keep it all.
Another factor is this was wear and tear, not what you expect when I paid £650. I have also looked online for the replacement bed legs and they are £6.50.
I tried to do the kind thing by not bothering them again with another problem. Which has completely back fired on me.
I treated their caravan with respect and left it immaculate, bed stripped hoovered and mopped throughout. I am an honest person and have respect for other people. Clearly not what they have.
So thank you debi, for taking 50% of my bond which is a full days wage for me.
I’d like to know when I can receive the remainder of my security bond.
We are always honest and accept our reviews so people can judge for themselves, I was aware that this was going to be a bad review by the way you spoke to me and that you had said that was what you were going to do. I will address HONESTLY the points you have raised.
Arrival / departure times are clearly stated on all paperwork. Everyone is made aware at the time of booking enquiry that my husband will be there to meet you at arrival and again on departure, you are no different You contacted me on the morning of arrival for directions to the caravan. You were well aware of the time of entrance. Guests who arrive early are accommodated to the best of our ability, we have also waited for hours when guests have arrived late.
All our guests are welcomed personally and shown around, we always ask if there are any questions . You were asked if there was anything you needed to know and you said no.
All our contact details are on the booking forms, they are also displayed in the windows of the caravan including my home number, work number and email address and there was no issue with you contacting me on the sat morning before you arrived.
The shower has an on/ off knob to the left hand side and a temperature control incorporating an anti scold device to the right hand side. The left controls the water and the right the temperature, you cannot get water from the right hand side alone. what you did was turned the temperature control beyond its maximum limit and jammed the anti scold device, when I spoke to you at the caravan you admitted that was exactly what you had done. As this is the second time a guest had done the exact same thing we felt it was advisable to change the unit. As it is peak season it is difficult to get a plumber at short notice, we ordered a replacement unit and drove up from nottingham Tuesday tea time and fitted it for you.
The caravan has a twin room with 2 single beds. The bed as you first enter the room is fitted one end with legs which are designed to fold which allows the end of the bed so as to have access to remove the mattresses etc. When the bed is in the upright position the legs are locked into place. They are not mismatched and previously broken as you have claimed this is their design and function.
The bedroom is a twin room with 2 single beds, you took it upon yourself to move the furniture to make a double bed . You then changed the dynamics by removing the side, middle access to the bed to directly over the adjustable legs . To clarify, you are putting your or whoever was using the bed, full body weight over those legs which were not designed for that purpose. What you actually did by your actions was totally bend the brackets in the opposite direction. You had the choice to use the other double bed, you chose not to. Yes you did tell my husband about it, yes you did mention that you had moved the bed into the bunk room, what you failed to mention was that by the time he had bent down, moved the duvet to look you had already walked out the door and left.
You question why I have only offered you 50% of your bond back, I will explain, you fail to take into consideration that the bed had to be repaired immediately and in emergency for the next guests so that their holiday would not be spoilt, It also took the time to repair, taking that we had new guests at 2pm and you left at 10am. Now 2 new legs have to be purchased which meet manufacturers standard not cheap from eBay or Amazon. Under the terms and conditions the full bond could have been withheld, I chose not to do this and offered you 50% back.
You have made your complaint exceptionally personal to me, I have responded entirely with facts. You had no issues having numerous telephone conversations with me or face to face,
No one has ever claimed you did this maliciously, but these issues were caused by your actions, had you have left the beds where they were supposed to be this would never have happened.
