About the location

ASHINGTON

Morpeth 5.9 miles, Newcastle 17.7 miles, Alnwick 23.4 miles

Ashington is a fabulous town and one of the largest in Northumberland with a variety of attractions and amenities on offer. There are bustling markets decorated with bunting where visitors can purchase authentic goods from independent stalls, alongside food outlets serving local produce. Queen Elizabeth II Country Park is a beautiful spot with a picturesque lake, whilst Ashington Community Woodland is perfect for walkers and wildlife-watchers. Discover the town's farming and mining history in Woodhorn Museum, a former 19th-century coal mine now hosting local arts and relics. Ashington is also ideally located on the coast for the peaceful Newbiggin-by-the-Sea Beach, with a stunning bay home to Sean Henry's romantic Couple sculpture, whilst golfers can take to Newbiggen Golf Club for wonderful coastal views. The historic town of Morpeth is a short journey away for stylish bars, wandering through the pretty gardens in Carlisle Park and ancient architecture such as the medieval Chantry. Newcastle sits south of Ashington, renowned for fantastic nightlife, a variety of galleries and museums and guided tours through the fully preserved, WWII Victoria Tunnel. To the north lies Alnwick, a quaint market town with a fairy-tale castle and the lovely Alnwick gardens, where guests can stop for lunch in the unique treetop diner. Ashington is the perfect base to explore the best of Northumberland.
