“We booked this as we wanted to spend a couple of days in Edinburgh and as the fringe was on, hotels were all booked up (and expensive!”

). The caravan had everything we needed for our stay and was a great base to get the train into Edinburgh (less than a 10 mins drive to the train station and 15 mins on the train). The kids enjoyed the beach and arcade as an added bonus of staying here too. Would definitely consider coming back again.

The property

The Thrifty Caravan is seriously good value for money.

Its location within Haven's Seton Sands Caravan Park couldn't be more convenient for accessing the pool, restaurant, chip shop, arcade, show bar or mini market.

From the caravn it is a 4-minute walk to the beach. Located in beautiful East Lothian mere moments from the beach, and with the City of Edinburgh just 40 minutes drive (or an hour's bus ride) away, The Thrifty Caravan is ideally placed for a wide variety of activities.

The nearest bus stop is directly outside the caravan park entrance.

The bus service runs 24 hours a day almost every day of the year and is very frequent.

Car parking bays are available near the entrance and also within a very short distance of the caravan itself. With a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a pull-out double bed in the lounge this caravan can comfortably sleep up to 6 people.

The kitchen is well-appointed, the lounge includes a selection of games as well as a TV and there is WiFi available at the main complex via Haven.

Pure cotton bedlinen is included but please bring your own towels.

There is a launderette next to the mini market, 2 minutes walk away, with washing machines and dryers. From mid-March until mid-November you and your fellow holidaymakers can enjoy the many activities provided by Haven Caravan Park by purchasing a play pass directly from Haven, once your holiday is fully booked.

There is a swimming pool, a 9-hole golf course and many children's activities available for every budget such as hut building, obstacle races, Nerf gun training, sand art sessions and bungee trampolining.

Pedal karts and bikes can be hired.

There is also an all-day restaurant, a chip shop, an arcade, a show bar and a little mini-market shop on site, for those days when convenience counts.

The Haven staff are friendly, helpful and approachable.

From mid-November until just after Hogmanay (New Year) the park opening dates are TBC (to be confirmed) by Haven.

I will update this page as soon as I hear from Haven. The Thrifty Caravan is competitively priced already, but sometimes we might have last-minute deals or discounts for longer stays.

If you already have holiday dates in mind please click the 'Check Availability' button.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £40.

About the location

No village

Chatsworth 1 mile; Bakewell 5 miles.

The pretty village of Baslow lies at the north end of stately Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The village has many unusual and picturesque features including a triple-arched river bridge guarded by a toll house whose doorway is only 3 1/2 feet high! Baslow offers a range of village amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants. Close by is Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. Bakewell is at the scenic heart of the Peak District, and with Alton Towers also within easy touring distance, there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
