“Just back from a week long stay in Carol’s van Windsor 171.”
We took my elderly father who has mobility issues and vascular dementia plus two dogs and the position on site could not have been better for us. The van is just behind the main complex, shop etc and across the road from huge expanses of grass and the Mere itself, perfect for dog walking., but it’s the second one in on the row so not next to the road itself. The bin store is just behind the next caravan as well so very convenient without the view! Carol has done a lovely job with the décor in the van; it was immaculately clean, very modern and well-appointed with everything you might need including a vacuum cleaner, loo rolls, washing up liquid, sponges and a tea towel plus sweeping brush and dustpan. All the bedrooms had their own wall-mounted TVs and the main bedroom had an en-suite toilet and sink. Outside the van are two spacious decking areas with ample seating including a dining table which was well-used by us as we struck very lucky and had a full week of sunshine! Both decks get the sun one from morning until night and the other in the afternoon and evening. Take a parasol or two with you as it does get hot and that was the only thing missing! ) There was an easy access gate and ramp to the decking and entrance, perfect for Dad and the dogs!
We ate in The Boat House on our first night and, whilst the food was well-cooked and the service fast given the numbers being catered for on a very busy Bank Holiday weekend and our dogs were permitted inside too, we didn’t eat there again for the rest of the week as it was crowded and too ‘rough’ and loud for our taste. We drove into Lytham and St Anne’s most evenings ( 15 mins in the car ) or ate at the caravan. ( full size fridge freezer, microwave and oven )
The beds in the twin bedrooms were a bit on the narrow size but we managed ( one of us being 6’2” and the other somewhat shorter but ‘chunky’! The sofas were a tad narrow too but okay sitting sideways!
The park itself could have been cleaner, we noticed lots of rubbish just dropped by poorly behaved kids and adults alike and only saw one litter picking person in the entire week and that was half-hearted! I mentioned broken glass leading to the grass by the bird hide verge and he said it was the Council’s responsibility and he’d mention it! The glass was on The Haven site and not the Mere and he just left it! The site security could also have been a little more proactive in their patrols, we didn’t see them at all but there were clearly groups of teens getting up to shenanigans in the bird hide most nights! We could smell cannabis quite wafting over from the touring area so it’s obviously not patrolled either. Obviously Haven can’t legislate for the people that book but do be warned if you are sensitive to this level of behaviour then it’s likely not going to be suited to you. The security staff on the main gate were wonderful though, very cheerful, chatty and friendly, a real asset to the company! We stayed away from the main complex on the whole as we just needed a base and it suited us very well. The in-site shop was handy and reasonably priced in comparison to other places we’ve stayed at. A great van in a fabulous position and it’s a Haven so we knew what we were signing up for!
