This has been a very confusing booking from the outset. The caravan sleeps a maximum of 4 guests as per the listing. The booking came through as 2 adults, 1 child, 2 babies. I contacted the help desk who agreed to contact the guests and confirm they were aware it was only 2 bedrooms; double plus twin and the babies would require the guests to take their own cots. This was later reiterated in my confirmation message to the guests. A no point was this queried or corrected.
After their arrival at no point did the guests contact me with any issues. Nor during their stay. We do return to sort any issues for guests. Things can get damaged in a rental property. This is a hard water area, we carry descaler. The cooker is metal and in a coastal location. Metal does rust. The cooker does light and if it doesn’t you should contact me and I’ll get that attended to if required. We do not leave guests without the means to cook.
There is no bed settee, it’s just a sofa. As per the listing. This may be relevant later.
I was contacted by a friend concerned about the number of children seen at the caravan. This is not unusual, children make friends on park.
I was also made aware the guests left on the Thursday
On the Friday morning the caravan keys were found under a planter. No contact was made about not using the key safe. People do ask to be resent the key safe code. They can delete the message. These guests made no such contact.
It became clear an air bed was used in the lounge during the stay, as the furniture had been moved and instructions for the air bed left. This did suggest additional guests stayed. There is no sofa bed. A double and two singles. There is no bed settee.
Since a young child tragically died in a caravan fire locally, whilst sleeping in the lounge, we took the decision to not allow guests to sleep in the lounge. This has been the case for around 7 years now.
We take fire safety very seriously and the need to know exactly who is sleeping in our properties.
Perhaps the guests expected to use a sofa bed? We are quite clear there are only beds for 4 persons maximum. A double, plus two singles.
The property was made ready for the next guest.
Over 24 hours after they vacated and around 12 hours after we had found them, the guest messaged to say where they’d left the keys. It’s far easier just to message to say they can’t open the key safe as they leave. I’m at a loss to understand the reason for the delay.
I asked about the air bed and after an initial denial, there were a series of conflicting messages. At one point they didn’t actually take the child listed. They said they took “ one less than on the booking”. Which would mean two adults, two babies stayed.
Yet now from the review it seems that the “child” did actually did go. They did also say the “two children” used the air bed as she didn’t like the caravan beds. I then asked about there being two children now on the air bed as she said earlier the child didn’t actually go. Details were conflicting.
Now I’m told the “ babies “ are actually 2 years old. Which means, if the details were entered correctly, it would not have brought up the listing. Nor would we have accepted the booking as they’re classed as infants or toddlers at this stage not babies, . We are quite clear it sleeps a maximum 4 yet it seems at least 2 adults, 3 children stayed.
