Well worth taking a trip north of the border for, Ayr in Ayrshire is the jewel in the crown of the southwest coast of Scotland, with beautiful beaches, captivating coastlines and vibrant villages and towns nearby.
Why Book A Caravan Holiday In Ayr?
A caravan holiday to Ayr promises visitors an exceptional holiday with memories to treasure forever. Whether you're on holiday with a group of friends, all the family and kids in tow or just that special someone, Ayr has something for everyone. First and foremost, Ayr is known for its long, sandy beach making it the perfect spot for a romantic stroll with your other half, a family picnic or a group bike ride along the National Cycle Route 7. The beach is dog-friendly, too, so your furry friends don't need to miss out on any fun.
Popular since the Victorian days, the beach at Ayr's Low Green is an expanse of grass popular for ball games and activities. Adjacent to the beach is a children's play area, a putting green and crazy golf. For some old-fashioned seaside fun check out Pirate Petes Entertainment Centre. The town of Ayr itself is well worth a browse with a great selection of independent and high street stores, shops, pubs, bars and eateries.
Things To Do In Ayr
Ayr was the birthplace of the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns, so no visit here would be complete without taking a trip to the village of Alloway on the outskirts of Ayr, where the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is located. This award-winning attraction takes visitors on a journey through Burns' life from his home at Burns Cottage, where he was born in 1759, along Poet's Path and outside to the commemorative gardens, which celebrate the poets life.
There are interactive activities and a Burns' themed play area for the children, which includes a zip wire, a climbing wall, and a replica of Burns Cottage. With more than 5,000 artefacts from Burns' life, this is a fascinating insight into the legend that is Scotlands national poet and should, without doubt, be on your Ayr holiday bucket list.
For a day out the whole family can enjoy, take a trip to the Heads of Ayr Farm Park, which is full of farmyard favourites, including sheep, pigs, horses, donkeys and goats, as well as more exotic creatures such as alpacas, lemurs, meerkats and monkeys. There are loads of animals to get up close and personal with, and if you need the children to burn off some energy, there is an indoor play barn and outside, as well as four themed play areas with jumping pillows, slides, trampolines, and adventure play zones.
If you're feeling peckish, don't worry; take your pick from the Stone House Kitchen, Grazer's Grill and the Stables Coffee Bar, where you will find tasty food and refreshments for everyone. Or you can bring your own food and enjoy a picnic in the picnic areas. Come rain or shine, visiting the Heads of Ayr Farm Park will keep the whole family entertained.
For an enjoyable historical outing and fantastic views, take a short drive to Dundonald Castle and Visitor Centre, where a medieval fourteenth-century castle perched on a hilltop is just waiting to be explored.
Boasting outstanding views over the Firth of Clyde, visitors can discover the castles high vaulted hallways, go down into the dark dungeons, and learn more about the archaeological finds at the site on display at the visitor centre. There are beautiful walks in the surrounding hills, and dogs on leads are welcome at the castle, where there is also a gift shop and a small cafe.
Ayr enjoys a superb setting close to beautiful beaches and enchanting countryside and is just a short drive from the bustling city of Glasgow, making it the perfect destination for an unforgettable holiday.
