Caravan holidays in Windermere

Windermere

A caravan holiday in Windermere promises the best the Lake District offers. Named after the largest lake in England, Windermere is situated on the shores of the eponymous waters and is a bustling, vibrant town.

Why Book A Caravan Holiday in Windermere?

The beauty of a Windermere caravan holiday is not only the affordability and flexibility of it but also the sheer convenience of having so many activities and attractions – and don’t even get us started on the views! – all right on the doorstep. So, whether you’re on holiday with family and friends or enjoying a romantic break with that special someone, not to mention your beloved furry friends too, everyone will be happy.

Windermere and the adjoining town of Bowness both have plenty to offer visitors, with loads of independent shops, cafes, tea rooms, boutiques, delis, pubs and restaurants. It is well worth stopping off and staying awhile to sample some of the beautiful cuisine, which showcases the excellent local produce available here, with Lake Windermere providing a dramatic backdrop.

Talking of Lake Windermere, the lake delivers an impressive array of activities both in, on and around the water, so why not take it easy and enjoy a relaxing boat trip around the lake to truly immerse yourself in the spectacular surroundings? Or, for something more adrenaline-fuelled, try watersports such as paddle boarding, kayaking, wake surfing and water skiing.

Places TO Visit During Windermere Holidays

While in Windermere, you mustn’t forget the town’s most famous resident, Peter Rabbit! The small town and the surrounding countryside inspired Beatrix Potter’s renowned books, and the World of Beatrix Potter attraction in Windermere is a fascinating tribute to this prolific and inspirational writer. Visitors, young and old, will be enchanted by this captivating experience, which tells the story of Beatrix Potter and how she brought Peter Rabbit to life. It starts with a short, informative film introducing us to the author and then visitors are invited to open the door into the magical world of Beatrix Potter and can wander around replica forest glades, flower meadows and woodland houses – see Mrs Tiggywinkle’s washing on the line and watch out for Mr MacGregor in the garden!

For creatures of the underwater kind, take a trip to the nearby Lakes Aquarium, which is within a short drive of Windermere. Here, you will find fish and sea creatures, both local and from around the world, as well as reptiles and amphibians and even some shy otters. There are daily talks and otter feeding sessions, and you can also walk through an underground tunnel and be amazed by all kinds of weird and wonderful fish on all sides.

No trip to the Lake District is complete without spending some time in the great outdoors soaking up the beautiful environment, so while you’re on a caravan holiday in Windermere, check out Brockhole on Windermere Lake District Visitor Centre, which is also dog-friendly and offers a simply sublime setting, offers a fabulous selection of activities suitable for all ages and abilities. Hire a boat and head out onto the lake! Other activities on the water include kayaking or on dry land; you could try your hand at archery, laser tag, axe throwing and laser clay shooting.

Get underground and have a go at caving, enjoy a round of mini golf, head off on an orienteering trail or, for something a little more sedate, take a stroll around the historic gardens. Children will love spending time in the adventure playground and try treetop nets and trekking. All that fresh air will, without doubt, tire everybody out, so you’ll certainly sleep well after a day at Brockhole!

One trip to Windermere just isn’t enough, so make sure you book your return trip soon.
