What is there to do?

The park itself houses water sports on the lake, including a new inflatable labyrinth (prices not included), fly fishing and a play park for children.
Ther are several nature reserves in the area with the RSPB Hodbarrow Nature Reserve just a 5 minute walk. Then there's South Walney Nature Reserve at Barrow-in-Furnace where at high tide seals can be seen. Also at Barrow is Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve, a national trust site with a small visitors centre and the Swinside Stone circle is worth a visit if you're out for a ramble.
A 15 minute drive to one of our personal favourite beaches at Silecroft. Further along the coast are many more like The unique village of Ulverston is just a 40 minute drive with lots of lovely places to eat (we suggest trying Naaz, an Indian cuisine). Lake Coniston is a 50 minute drive and Lake Windermere just over an hour or if you prefer a quieter lake then Wast Water is only 50 minutes from the park. If you like trains and the railway Ravenglass is a great place to go with only a 30 minute drive, a great pub we recommend; The Ratty Arms and a small gauge steam railway, also Millom has a train station going from Preston to Carlisle via Whitehaven; this, we find, is a lovely train ride with Carlisle being a great place to shop and Whitehaven having a great harbour for crabbing and also several streets of shops both unique and chain. Barrow is a 50 minute drive and a fantastic place to go for shopping, it has its own market and theatre which is worth checking out. If you just enjoy a ride out or looking at breath taking mountainous views there is The Hardknott Pass or The Wrynose Pass, both of which are beautiful, or if you're feeling more energetic try climbing the Scafell Pike which is less than an hours drive away.

Where are some great places to eat?

Millom has a wide selection of different cuisines; Indian, Chinese, Fish and Chips etc.
We also recommend Naaz at Ulverston and The Ratty Arms at Ravenglass, as previously mentioned.

These are only a few suggestions and there will be many more leaflets and recommendations in the Lodge upon your stay.

Family With Older Children

Date of stay - 1 Aug 2020 - 8 Aug 2020

The lodge more than met our expectations. It was clean and comfortable, with good open plan living space, and great outdoor space (decking and grassed area). The bedrooms were not spacious, but more than adequate, and were a typical size for this type of accommodation. The main bedroom had an en-suite shower-room which was a good size, and could also be accessed from the hallway, making it more versatile for family use. There was a separate bathroom, also of reasonable size for this type of accommodation. All appliances and facilities were in working order and we didn’t have any problems during our stay. There was a good amount of well planned storage, including a “cloakroom” cupboard for outdoor wear which was handy. WiFi and TV reception were good. Overall, a homely and comfortable lodge, which helped us to have a relaxed and enjoyable week in a beautiful part of the country. Thank you.

Thank you Caroline for your encouraging review. We are pleased you were able to have a relaxing and enjoyable week.

The lodge is beautiful, very homely and spotlessly clean, washing machine and dishwasher are a bonus. We spent New Year here with our grandchildren, location was perfect and we loved the tranquility. Went for a lovely walk on New Years Eve morning along the beach, the children loved it. Also a lovely touch is the coffee, tea etc and all the cleaning materials. I took everything but the kitchen sink and didn't need to. We have re- booked for Easter to take our elderly parents. This lodge accommodates from the young to the old. I would highly recommend Thank you David and Rachel for a beautiful stay.

Thank you for your lovely comments. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the lodge and look forward to welcoming you back over the Easter weekend.
